Harder Problems = Better Inventions (And Ideas!)

Posted on October 19th, 2007 in Inspirational by admin

This is a great video about a young inventor who has discovered a new way to utilize wind energy. I don’t actually know anything about how this stuff works, but it’s always interested me! Regardless, the lesson to learn here is the ability to take life’s PROBLEMS and turn them into SOLUTIONS. It can be near impossible in some circumstances, but it’s ALWAYS possible.

Check it out here!

It’s an art, really. How to “make lemons into lemonade”. The other day, I was faced with a situation which seemed almost impossible to find the “good” in. But with a little determination, and a bit of the right attitude, everything turned out just fine.

Next time you have a tough problem staring you in the face, find the SOLUTION hidden in the problem. It’s there…just keep looking, and you’ll find it. But trust me…it’s ALWAYS there.

Jimmy V: How to Approach Life

Posted on August 17th, 2007 in Inspirational by admin

You may not have ever heard of Jim Valvano (aka Jimmy V), but you’ll know him soon.

Jimmy V was a college basketball coach, including stints at Bucknell, John Hopkins, Iona, and NC State. He was mostly known as a great coach who was tough but fair…the kind of coach a player would die to play for.

But in 1992, Valvano was diagnosed with lung cancer. His prognosis wasn’t good.

In 1993, at the ESPN ESPY Awards, Jim was awarded the Arthur Ashe Courage and Humanitarian Award. He approached the podium to thank the crowd, and ended up delivering one of the most inspirational speeches in history. He closed the speech with the following:

“Cancer can take away all of my physical abilities. It cannot touch my mind, it cannot touch my heart, and it cannot touch my soul. And those three things are going to carry on forever. I thank you and God bless you all.”

Watch the entire speech - it’s less than 10 minutes out of your day, but it will give you a brand new outlook on life. And whenever you’re feeling like things are hopeless, come back and watch it again. It’s that powerful.

It’s a sad thing to learn that Jim Valvano passed away just 2 months after this speech. If you’ve ever seen an example of “never giving up”, he’s it.

Lessons by Music Video

As this website progresses, you’ll come to notice that I am a HUGE fan of music. Almost any kind of music, in fact. And I love it when music does a large part of the “teaching” for me!

Now, I personally am not a fan of the band Nickleback…but that doesn’t mean that I can’t appreciate their music. And I sure do appreciate this music video. I hope that you will too. Be sure to watch until the end of the video…it’s great.

And yes, I know that this video/song is pretty old, but I still love the message. Let me know what you take away from it in the comments!
